Today in class we started off by reviewing the geography of Africa in order to prepare for the test tomorrow. After that, we started talking about one of the major problems in Africa today, which is HIV/AIDS. We wrote down some important facts about the disease. Some of the things we wrote down included that it starts out as the virus HIV, and develops into AIDS. We also learned that AIDS can be transmitted though blood to blood contact, through breast milk, and through "sexual fluids." Additionally, we wrote down that there is no cure for AIDS, but there are ways to slow down the symptoms. After this, we were given charts and data that compared the numbers and statistics of AIDS in Africa to the rest of the world. Using the chart, we completed a worksheet that had several math related questions about the charts and data. After we came back from Lunch, we read an article about AIDS and were required to write five arguments about the topic. Whatever we didn't finish in class was assigned for homework and due the next day.

Today, when we got to class we had a few minutes to review for the Africa geography test. After that, we took the actual test on Moodle. When we came back from lunch we started watching a documentary on an African's life. We learned about how poor the country is and how they live in poverty. We also learned that many women use prostitution as a way of income for their family. The spread of HIV and AIDS continues to get worse throughout the country because most people do not understand how you can get the disease and they don't have enough money for medications to slow it down.
